Application Process

Seattle Academy uses Ravenna, a web-based application system, for the submission of online applications. Through Ravenna, families can manage their applications, complete the preliminary application, and submit supplemental forms, such as teacher evaluations, student statement, and parent/guardian statements. Our Financial Aid application, Student and School Services or SSS, can also be found through Ravenna.

Applications for the 2018-19 school year will be accepted beginning on September 1, 2017.

PRELIMINARY APPLICATION
The preliminary application takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and includes:

  • Biographical Information
  • Student Interest Sheet
  • $75 non-refundable application fee

Please Note: The sooner the preliminary application has been submitted, the earlier you can schedule your student visit day and parent interview, both of which are required steps in our application process.

Student visit days and parent interviews begin mid-November and continue through the end of February.

SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIALS
Our supplemental materials are due by our admission deadline of 11:59 PM on January 11, 2018 and include:

  • Student Statement
  • Parent Statement
  • Teacher Evaluations
  • Transcript Request – at a minimum, request should be submitted to your current school
  • ISEE or SSAT test scores—We are registered as Seattle Academy.  Our school code for the ISEE test is 481154. For the SSAT, please use 7240.  Test scores are due to Seattle Academy by January 22, 2018, for both Middle School and Upper School applicants.

Visit Days

As part of the application process, all students are scheduled for a full-day visit. Our goal is to have every applicant experience and understand what daily life is like at Seattle Academy, both in and out of the classroom. And beyond the “daily” experience, what is life like over time at SAAS?

Classes:

  • On a Middle School visit day, students are fully active in their classes, experiencing Academics, Arts, Robotics, and PE.
  • For Upper School visits, students are scheduled into classes according to the interest indicated on their applications. We’ll make sure that your visit day includes the areas you’d like to experience and learn more about.

Learning About Student Life:
Important moments come for applicants to all grades when they get to hear from current students about clubs, activities, sports, trips, the culture of the school—overall, what life feels like at SAAS. Two structured times for the sharing of that information occur (during a morning break and during lunch), and there are many other moments throughout the visit when current students are happy to answer questions or share experiences.

Visit days start at 8:15 and end at 2:30.

Parent Interviews

Every family who turns in a completed preliminary application may then schedule a parent interview.  This interview provides a forum for an in-depth exchange of information between parents and admission personnel, to determine if Seattle Academy is the best possible school for the family.

If possible, reserve a parent interview time on a date after your child’s visit day, so you have the opportunity to bring a set of relevant questions to the interview and we will have had a chance to meet the child. While it is recommended that the parent interview occur no more than two weeks after the visit day, with busy schedules, we understand that this timing is not always possible.

Families are encouraged to contact the school with questions any time during the application process.

Based on the number of applicants, some families may be placed on a waitlist. Families placed on a waitlist have the option to remain on the waitlist or can decline the invitation to be waitlisted. If space becomes available, the Admission Office will contact those families who elected to remain on the waitlist and ask if they are still interested in attending Seattle Academy.
